Midas: ‘give a man a home’ – bharper

must be that Midas touch,
somewhere between true beauty
and the impossibility of love,
just what we lost perceptions of
a sick perfection guiding us
toward something better, never best,
admiring gifts that we possessed,
we froze them there in time
an artifact that gave no more,
its purpose now resigned,
a spectacle and nothing less,
save what it was to us, a test
we failed to pass for success’ sake,
the irony we saw too late
but learned our lessons well:
that true perfection knows mistake
in love, all flaws excel.
