Uprooted Tree: ‘I see your face across the sea; you’re in the waves surrounding me’ – w.jenny’s

I screamed into the darkness,
and you heard nothing.
I dreamt I saw you before me,
but you weren’t there.
I believed, or wanted to,
that you ached and felt it all,
but you didn’t.

And all my life, I was told
that we were deeply woven roots,
perhaps a whole forest away,
yet still connected underneath,
but in that little metaphor,
they don’t tell about the trees
whose roots grew too shallow, or
whose seeds were sown too far
from the orchard field, no,
no one needs to know when
some were born to die alone.
so if that’s their purpose,
let them serve it well and
get on with living your own life.
