oh pastor man and all your lies about the grace you gave, we saw through the thick, black book you held, all those shouts about the Lord who saves; we saw every god-damned mountain moved, and all your lies about the dynamite and as you climbed up on the hanging rood and jabbed the spear […]

Prophets & Angels
prophets and angels may seem to speak of different gods between their voices shouting truths or their songs, a quiet grace – and though their love has left us here beneath the battle’s wake, a peace lies as the angel nears what the prophet came to take.

Horizons
the horizon is a lie cloaked in contours and caught between the alpha and omega, where the morning’s embers are fanned into flames until the evening fades them into ashes settling, settling to a rigid ground whose edges are softened by their billion little truths until the horizon brings again its little evening lie.
Remnants
it was the remnants of a field of corn now overtaken with young saplings making a name for themselves in these woods of woods, and the maize long forgotten seemed to haunt the winding creek, who crept along the sudden turns in grace, a place of questions granted and where there are no answers sometimes […]

Seeds
all along the field where the wildflowers grow I test the dirt beneath my feet as though it were a snow, freshly fallen, careful steps I go, I go, I go, and hope the dust will settle there, will settle down below, behind me now, those steps are made I know, I know, I know […]

This is Morocco

Morse Code
oh my friend, I have watched you spin your lies and weave a mythology, a story so deep, it is your truth, but I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter all that much to you who is hurt or how when perception is in your favor, it is all there is, a world of nothing more […]

Nashville VIII
no tears for Nashville, no sense in adding to the flood, though the roads that ran like rivers had us wading in the mud, and even when the Opry House took the floodgates in, or even when the Titan gods were crying ‘sink or swim,’ we knew that ‘we are Nashville,’ the Athens of this […]
Sunset
the Sunset found me in your field, and I bent the blades of grass against your back like pillows that could’ve been swords instead, though the only blood drawn gave life, a test of love and sacrifice, but as we bathed in all this bliss, the Sunset burned upon us, this: that time cannot be […]

Rood Again
old tree, the way you sway with the wind, you test your roots and make known your age, but we do not hear the grinds or groans of decay – no, these sounds you sigh are those of aching beauty, of cruciform desire, a path laid out beyond the time when leaves no longer dawn […]
